My Hair Care Journey - Week 5

My Hair Care Journey - Week 5

And here we are at week 5! Boy time surely does fly when you’re having fun! If you missed week 4 you can catch it here.

This week I decided I would work on flat twists. *Disclaimer I am pretty terrible at actually doing flat twists… even after watching so many in-depth and wonderfully done YouTube tutorials. BUT I can do a good enough job to actually turn out some nice results, it’s just not something I would ever leave the house in… I mean maybe if it was on fire… maybe…

Products featured in this weeks’ journey are my Charcoal Bliss Shampoo Bar, Tempting Tonic Deep Conditioner, and my Sultry Sorcery Leave-In Conditioner.

Alright enough small talk here we gooooooo!

Week 5:

This is just my windblown frizzy goodness after my hair turned into a cotton ball (surely ya’ll remember this debacle from last week… I mean who could forget)? Well anywho, like the day after I had to go spend 16 hours in the car round trip almost back to back and this hair is a result of all of that madness. Fun stuff, right?

Here I am using my Charcoal Bliss Shampoo Bar (https://www.soapwitchcrafts.com/products/charcoal-bliss-milk-shampoo-bar-ylang-ylang-lemongrass-cedarwood-blend). Would you just look at that beautiful lather? Must be magic… or something. During week 1 of the journey I mentioned that I usually wash, rinse and repeat a total of 3 times, however I have been finding that my hair feels perfectly clean after just doing 2 washes so I forgo doing a 3rd. The key to having such a good lather on my 1st wash has been making sure that my hair is thoroughly saturated with water before lathering it up with soapy goodness.

Here is where my Tempting Tonic Deep Conditioner (https://www.soapwitchcrafts.com/products/tempting-tonic-deep-conditioner-with-local-raw-honey-jasmine-scented-silky-smooth-detangling-conditioner-creamy-provitaminb5) makes its grand entrance. De-tangling is without a doubt my least favorite part… but with this magical beauty the process is a breeze. It has cut down my de-tangling time by at least half. I leave it in for about 30 minutes after I finish de-tangling and it makes my hair so, so soft!

And cue my Sultry Sorcery Leave-In Conditioner (https://www.soapwitchcrafts.com/products/sultry-sorcery-leave-in-conditioner-for-dry-to-brittle-hair-jasmine-scented-silky-smooth-manageable-hair-creamy-and-lightweight). For this style I made some flaxseed gel. I love the hold but hate the texture so that’s still a work in progress. Whenever I am using gel I like to use a leave-in beforehand for extra moisture.

Finally, the moment you’ve all been waiting for… watching me act a fool with these flat twists haha (no really though…). I decided to add little perm rods at the ends, mostly because my heat damaged ends won’t stay twisted without something holding them, but also, they look cute with the little curlicues at the bottom.

I was actually ridiculously pleased with the way this style turned out (and ask The Assistant, when it comes to my hair, I can be downright obsessive). I wish I didn’t hate the goopy almost snotty texture of flaxseed gel, because the results are really nice. I am working to see if I can make it into a custard or something. Stay tuned for updates on that one.

The is the day after I took the twists out. Still looking good ya’ll.

This is 2 days after taking the twists out. I’m really, really, REALLY liking this one!

This is 3 days after taking the twists out. So far, this style has survived the oppressive TN humidity (oh yeah, it’s a thing) AND boot camp the night before. Yay me!

This is 4 days after taking the twists out. This style is a keeper my friends. I consider this one a success!

That’s all I’ve got for this week friends.

Stay tuned for week 6.

Until Next Time,

The Soap Witch
